Strategy for publication of scripts

Standard

Identification of the target is absolutely necessary, for marketing of any product, even though there are other factors as well. But for achieving success, we should have communication with the target at a proper time & place & in a proper manner, when he is receptive and in his own language, if possible. I have a hobby of writing articles, case studies, interviews, book-reviews etc. in English and Hindi languages, from the beginning of my career. As normally expected, my initial efforts were not very successful, since several of my scripts used to be returned back with the compliments of the Editors. Then I made an analysis of my returned articles, as well as the various write ups published in journals, magazines & newspapers in English & Hindi languages. I formulated my strategy based on the following points: (a) For writing on technical matters in Hindi language, there are not many writers (b) The number of technical write ups in English is large enough, which can be translated into Hindi language. (c) Translation of technical write ups is also a technical work. (d) Assessment indicates that both original technical writings and translations into Hindi language have adequate scope. (e) Number of journals for technical publications in Hindi is expected to increase, which will increase the scope still further. My assessment led me to go in for technical writing in Hindi language. Accordingly, I started in right earnest, writing on technical topics in Hindi, in addition to general topics, including original & review writings and translations of write ups published in English, by Indian and foreign authors. While several scripts in Hindi have been published, one of them has been awarded President of India award. But this strategy did not deter my efforts to write in technical and general fields in English language, and a large number of such scripts have also been published and also posted on web site.

ANALYSIS OF CONCENTRATION NEEDED IN DAILY LIFE

Standard

There is a narration in Mahabharata epic about Arjun, concentrating on the eye of the fish as seen on the reflection in water. Yes, it was a case essentially needing deep and single point concentration, for getting certain success. But this type of concentration, in the opinion of the blogger, is not needed in many of the normal happenings in life. Any worker, instructor, driver, reader, student, writer, police man or security guard etc. may have some internal & external disturbances, but does need concentration to a limited extent for his work. A vehicle driver should concentrate on all rules/problems/activities connected with driving the vehicle, as well as on various things & activities happening on the road at that time. He should keep his thoughts on other topics away from him. When some particular activity/work is going on, then as soon as a person gets relevant information which may affect it, he should analyze & use it immediately without keeping it waiting. During piloting of an aeroplane, when the pilot gets some important information, his attention should be immediately drawn to it, for taking immediate appropriate action. The concentration of a designer should be wide enough for understanding, anticipating & highlighting all aspects/problems during manufacture & use of that product.
By deeply concentrating on the present work, a person may perform the work satisfactorily with minimum mistakes, but he is not vigilant of the events happening around him at that time. Such a person may be working under dangerous external situations/circumstances and he may even become a victim or a cause of accident(s). Such a person should be given assurance of full safety from outside hazards and he should feel that someone is worrying about his safety. Thus a person solely engaged in his work, concentrating on a particular topic under consideration, but not remembering that he has also to do some other works like writing an official letter or making a telephone call or visiting an office may cause problems in day to day working. Also in case he does remember it, it means that he is not concentrating fully on his work. We may need different levels of concentration for different works. The limitation of concentration may be adjusted as per the need. We should consider concentration on a topic and taking up other works together, meaning thereby to have concentration, but still not have it fully. It is said that today’s world is that of multi-tasking and that people cannot concentrate or focus on a single goal only. Multi-tasking involves change of focus and reduced reaction time. But more success appears to come from single minded devotion, concentration and passion, since continuous concentration is capable of overcoming many obstacles in our life. Also it is understood that our brain can do one task at a time efficiently. History is replete with many cases of success, where the persons adopted this approach. Also our thoughts are very important in life. We should concentrate on our positive, encouraging and stable thoughts, with negative thoughts not finding any place in our mind. Interest in the work & desire to continue to learn, automatically help in getting concentration on the work. Sometimes when we open our books in student life or technical papers for study & disposal in work life, we are unable to continue due to our being tired, trying to do several things at the same time, lack of interest or inability to concentrate on the subject. If we get involved in imaginary day-dreaming, thoughts of friends or family or other subjects or get restlessness or feelings of tension, we will not be able to complete the works satisfactorily. Meditation increases the ability for better concentration, reduces anxiety & stresses in spite of various factors, by keeping a person away from other disturbances. But it is considered that while doing meditation also, a person should be vigilant enough about external disturbances & dangers & internal depressive factors.

SOME THOUGHTS ABOUT CONSULTANCY

Standard

It is not necessary that any one will be successful in any field and at any time, since success depends on several factors. This is equally applicable to the field of consultancy. One person after his retirement offered consultancy services, based on his experience, in the city where he had settled down. But there were no takers, due to inadequate contacts in the new station, the expertise being general in nature and not being much relevant and special for the industries & organizations in the area. On the other hand, another person offered consultancy services in the same station, from where he retired and he was comparably better placed in the field. Also when the consultant is new and young, there is an impression that he has very little experience and thus he does not command much respect in this field. Networking is generally found to be very useful in such cases. It does not mean that consultancy does not have success. Working in a group, preferably with experienced persons, helps a lot in getting not only success but tremendous success. This means that a lot depends on the way we handle the situations, manage the tasks and the people. If quality and timely completion of works and good human relations are maintained, success should not be far away.
A Consultant is a person who is an expert, having wide knowledge in a particular field, who is used to help in solving a problem. In this manner, a person or business can get access to higher levels of expertise. There are several types of consultants, wide areas of consultancy and various methods of their working. A Consultant may work on temporary basis for multiple and changing clients, charging each case on its merits and work involved or work in an organization but also be available for consultation by other organizations. The consultant may work from his own office or be at the site of the client and their process of hiring and the modes of payments may also be different. Consultancy as a profession has its positive & negative points. In any field, a person should have relevant knowledge & experience, before he can offer consultancy services. A young entrant to this field should have formal training in class room and on-the-job, besides experience in practical applications. A lot however depends on the knowledge, experience, ability, handling, performance and relationships of the individual consultant. Also the results may vary from one organization to another. Thus there is uncertainty & variation of work-load from time to time. Work will come only when good results are achieved for the clients. The consultant has therefore, to work very hard, get results, continue to update his knowledge & develop new & useful services for the clients. Also it is possible that after completion of the assignment by the consultant, there may be failure or flaw in the results. This may be due to wrong advice/actions by the consultant or incorrect implementation/actions by the client. These cases should be examined properly & all concerned must learn from such instances, for taking corrective measures for future.

RESPONSE TO UNFAIR TREATMENT

Standard

It has been observed that some persons are inclined to criticize, bully and humiliate some other persons (adults and the children alike), in an unfair manner. No one is perfect in the world. Like all others, we all may also have several shortcomings & weaknesses, but we have to effectively stand up to the unfair criticism by others. Normally by nature, we may be polite persons, not inclined to retaliate and attack other persons verbally or in writing. But we cannot and should not allow ourselves to be attacked in this manner. We must consider it as our responsibility to defend ourselves and fight this injustice. It is possible that this may be happening due to prevailing ignorance and that it may reduce with awareness. If so, we must remove this ignorance and create awareness by all means possible including writing, speaking and media. We should contribute and communicate our deep feelings in our own way through our writings/speeches/discussions etc. so as to help in removing the ignorance and the partisan attitude. We should be courageous, bold, truthful and blunt enough to call a spade a spade and rightly decry the comments of such persons/speakers/readers/writers for their biased attitude, so that they can understand and thereby, have feelings of respect for us. At the same time, as a corrective action, we should provide right information and remove their ignorance. It is for us to take the initiative and make this difference. We should ourselves appreciate our culture and efforts of our parents and elders to generate certain qualities. This message, clear and loud enough, should reach out to all concerned, including the teens, for their information and change to a realistic, unbiased and friendly attitude.
